History of Surfing:
It is one of the oldest practiced sports on the planet. Surfing is one of the few sports that creates its own culture and lifestyle.
Surfing originated in Western Polynesia over three thousand years ago. It was a way for the first fishermen to get their fish onto the shore.
The boards were usually made out of pieces of wood on the bark of trees. It soon evolved into a canoe where rowing was introduced. Rowing was very useful as it got the surfer closer to the waves. But it was hard to stand up in the canoe, so the people went back to using wood, but this time they shaped the wood.
Standing up on a board originated in Hawaii, because it was used to row on the stomach before it was stood on. This was when the King and Queen ask for a performance. Because this originated in Hawaii, the Hawaiians are the best surfers in the world. They have the highest reputation for skill and talent.
Sharks have been a common threat for many centuries, but is now almost under control.

What are the safety precautions and requirements?
This sport requires a few safety precautions, such as wearing the correct attire, having the right board, practicing on easy waves first and getting help. You will need to practice a lot, such as everyday if you want to become a champion.
In this sport, wearing the correct attire is not extremely important, but it is still important. Wearing the correct
attire can sometimes save your life. If you wear wrong attire, you can sink. If you are wearing the correct attire, you can swim faster away from things like sharks. Wearing goggles will also help you to see is a big wave is coming so you can flee from it.
Choosing the right board is also extremely important, as it will improve your performance. If you do not have a good board, chances are you will fall of it. This will not be too good, as you will tire in a few minutes. With the right board, you can ride the waves as if you own them.
If you are a beginner, it is highly recommended that you start nice and easy as waves can hurt you badly. Start nice and easy, with waves that reach only up to one metre, and work your way up. As I said before, waves can be very big, bigger than 20 metres. Starting easy is the first step to success.
Ask for help from the professionals as they will know how to help you. They have surfed for a long time and know a trick or two so don’t hesitate to ask them and learn. Lessons can also be offered at some surfing resorts so if you would like a constant eye on you, they are a good choice.

Records of Surfing:
There are not many records for surfing as surfing is only enjoyed and not played to set records. Some people have surfed to set records and some records have been set, but majority of records are from competitions.
The biggest wave ever surfed has reached 100 feets, this is over 30 metres. Imagine yourself surfing a wave as big building. This was set off Praia do Norte beach at Ansari, Portugal. This is extremely dangerous, scary and adrenaline rushing as it is so big and the thought that it could crush you will get your hearts pounding.
The surfer of this huge eave was a famous surfer Garrett McNamara age of 45. Garrett McNamara was towed by a jet ski onto the largest wave, so he did not swim there by himself. This was a very extreme record which was set down in history. It was so extreme it was recorded into the Guinness World Records. This wave was six metres higher than the previous record, which was set in the same spot last year. This record was set in 2012, and only a few days later, the record was put in the Guinness World Records.
